What are you using this computer for? If one of the key functions of this computers is to transfer code to the robot, you should check that it is capable of doing that. See, if you are counting on some sort of USB to serial port adapter, it may not work. It didn't work on my laptop, which is why we had to bring the big computers last year. It wasn't a problem with the adapter. The whole USB to serial conversion just doesn't work too well on some computers.
Now, it's unlikely that you'll be able to find a laptop computer with a serial port; they're kind of outdated. I'm just warning you that things may not work out the way you want them to work out. Of course, you still need a laptop for other stuff, like the program that will determine where to place the next lifesaver in real time, a program I assume someone is working on already? _________________ Eugene - Robotics Alumnus
