Instead of worrying about machining, JB weld, etc, why dont we just use a straight piece of 5/8" shaft running between the motors. Then we can just get 2 10 tooth, 5/8" bore sprockets from McMaster, since we have time and money, and just stock the old sprockets, 10t 1/2" bore will come in handy in some other application.
Plus we can get keyed 5/8" shaft, and run the sprockets on the keyway to guarentee no slippage. The only thing we would need to do is order the stuff and cut down the shaft a few inches, mount everything, and it'll be way more solid than it was before. A solid piece of shaft, with sprockets keyed down, will give us even more strength and insurance, and operate even smoother.
Here is the stuff:
1497K954 5/8" Keyed Shaft, 18" Long, 3/16" Keyway $22.48
6280K323 10 tooth, 5/8" bore sprocket w/ 3/16" Keyway, $14.54 for two
98830A150 Steel Oversized 3/16" key stock $3.52 for 4
$40.54 to solve this problem, with no machining, etc required, and it'll make it stronger and easier to install at the competition. Sounds good to me.
Plus, we can also get some other stuff to stock and bring to the competition, as well as keep in 30. |
